I love the 99CentsOnly Store
I took my mother-in-law there today so she could do some shopping, and since I have rarely ever been in there, had no idea they sell books.

They had in hardcover, in mint condition, Jimmy Carter's "Beyond The White House".

At just under a dollar, that's better than you'll do in the remainder bin at the local book chains. I noticed other Democratic-leaning books, such as one on the history of the Marshall Plan, and a book by Russell Feingold. No Republican books - no Beck, no Rush, no Palin (probably couldn't give them away where we live). The selection isn't big, but it would be worth repeat visits.

Yet.

2. A book about him then
:-) I admit I only saw his name on the cover, but didn't peruse.

Yep - I saw his name in big letters and knee-jerked. Have you read this?

4. Yes, I own it.
I figured that was the one. It's a great read. In it I learned that when he was 7 he asserted that he'd be the first Jewish president. I hope he was right. :)

5. I don't know why the hell I didn't add it to the other
At $1 a pop, it wasn't going to bust even my meager budget.

It will be there tomorrow. :-)

6. The opening line is: "Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton was livid."

7. If you had posted that as a subject line in GD just 18 months ago
It would have launched 1,000 flame wars.

Not that I would ever suggest such a thing.

8. Indeed.

It's a really comprehensive look into his life and his political history. They go into great detail of Clinton's impeachment and Feingold's break from the party on some of that process. He's a smart man and a constitutional scholar as well as a very strong supporter of the Bill of Rights.

9. I found a mint-condition book for 99 cents in a similar store
The title was "The Right Man". The cover shows some goofy-looking guy wearing a flight suit with a codpiece.

99.99 cents
They actually raised their prices by 0.99 cents due to the hard times, and to stay true to their promise that nothing in the store costs more than a dollar.

Some items are less, like small canned food items, etc, which run 39, 49, 59 cents etc.

15. Bargains Abound In Many Of The Dollar Kind Of Stores
Decent reading material, decent soap products, unusual finds, greeting cards etc. It's nice just knowing you can have a ten dollar bill and come out with a bag of goodies! I see many seniors and out of workers going there on a regular basis.

16. I wish we had one here..
The 99CentsOnly stores by my folks have some real nice produce. One can get 3 or 4 avocados for a buck during peak season there. We have Dollar Tree here. Every six months or so, a decent book shows up on their shelves, but usually they have nothing but kiddie books and some fiction. I did get Al Franken's "The Truth with Jokes", John Dean's "Worse Than Watergate", Thomas Frank's "What's the Matter with Kansas?" and Molly Ivins' last book there. I try to go every week or so just to see if something else shows up that's worth reading. Usually, I am disappointed.

Much of what Dollar Tree sells is overpriced Chinese-made junk. But, every so often, one can find some good deals, like that clinical-strength deodorant that sells for six or seven bucks at the drug store. I like them for cleaning supplies, gift wrap/bags, and toothbrushes. No fresh produce, sadly.
