1. When my son started dating...
I sat him down and said, "OK. Ground rule #1 is that I sure as hell better look like a grandparent before you make me one."

Without missing a beat he replied, "You haven't looked in a mirror lately, have you Dad?"

She's two, so it's all pretty tame for her....and quite adorable, if I might add.

If only it could stay that way....I know it won't.

8. That's a line that my mother uses on me from time to time
I truly hate when she does it, it can't be any good in the other direction either.

Unfortunately, it was at 4 AM, when I was trying to get some sleep after working a late night.

You have a very cute kitty!

I can't think of a single thing. Doesn't mean that nothing "bad" was ever said...

but I am lucky to have a nurturing, loving and forgiving family. The "bad" stuff we've all said to each other out of anger doesn't stick or resonate with me. At all. The support and love has and far outshines the bad stuff. In fact, I'd never waste a moment trying to come up with a single example of a bad thing they've said or done. And I'm pretty confident that they would feel the same.

I am sure we've all said horrible, nasty, cringe-worthy stuff to each other... but I did not deposit any of it into a repository of memories. With all of the good and awesome stuff, there's simply no room for that nonsense.

And I am pretty sure that they are also not keeping a scorecard of stupid shit that I've spewed in anger.

13. If "You knew about it. " is a 'quote', I think I know.
That article was revealing and unhappy.
I'm sorry.

14. But to answer your question...
It wasn't until she was in her 30s.
My grandson had done something egregious, I don't remember what.
So I got after him in the middle of his mom getting after him.
Just verbally dressing him down, nothing physical.
"DAD! I'll take care of this!!!

Boy, was she pissed.
Maybe more at him, but it was a very emotional moment.
She'd never spoken that way to me before.

Anyway, I guess I learned my 'place' in the pecking order.
I stay out of disciplinary situations since.

15. "Don't come into the room, okay?!!"
Words to strike fear into a parent's heart.

(she was 2 or 3 and had just finished measuring how many times around her belly she could stretch a piece of chewed bubble gum, and was at the critical moment of realization that it's easier to apply than remove.)

19. She called me a slut.
I said, "I wasn't a slut. I was just enjoyable."

I also said, "Besides, it was the 1970s, AIDS was not around yet and all the girls were on birth control pills".

22. Can't really think of one.
Even when she said she hated me, I was still like, "Aw. My baby's mad!"

I've gotten pist at her when she's treated other people poorly. But not me. I'm immune.

23. that my life is dysfunctional
because I have come across struggles and I have to work to overcome them, and then comes another struggle,... etc.

That's funny, I thought that life was getting through what you had to get through. I thought my life was the very model of functionality.
