The problem with Joel is that his music is overplayed on A/C radio.

Most every day, I hear "Big Shot", "Tell Her About It", and "Only the Good Die Young." If you're as old as I am, this means you've probably heard these songs going on 100,000 times each by now.

the lyrics and visuals are quite engaging. and since Billy Joel was part of the pop culture at the time, the song was a welcome departure from the 1980s "age of greed" slew of consumerism.

7. I have always liked his stuff, too

His songs are often biographical. His stuff is very upbeat when written at a time when his love life
with Christie Brinkley was going well, down when it wasn't, and Piano Man was nothing other than a
compilation of memories of when he really was a cocktail lounge pianist in his early twenties. The
songs he wrote after his trip to the USSR, especially "Leningrad," are cool, too, although not top 40
material. I also like his social/historical stuff, like "Goodnight Saigon," "Allentown," and "Downeaster
Alexa."

Agree that "The Stranger" was one of THE best albums of the 70s.

14. I saw him LIVE in February.

In OKC with The FAABULOUS Sir Elton John. I'd been wanting to see Elton for decades. In college we used to dance to "Love Lies Bleeding in my hands..."

I've never been crazy about Billy Joel, but I think he writes catchy stuff.

They both came out at the beginning, with their huge pianos facing each other. They started with

"It's a little bit funny...this feeling inside....I'm not one who can easily hide....."
and a few thousand of us started crying like babies, it was so powerful.
Then they did "I Love You Just the Way You Are".

Then Billy left, Elton did the first half, Billy did the second half, they did a lot of songs together, alternating verses, and ended up with "Piano Man".

I'm a piano player, have been since I was a tot. Some of Billy's stuff was kind of boring that I Was not familiar with, like Zanzibar.

That was my Valentine's Present from DH. Wow!!!
