Pollan sucks
I LIKE my high-fructose corn syrup, corn oil, corn emulsifiers, corn-fed beef, and corn liquor, and I like paying for it with my tax dollars, Mr. Berkeley Smartpants. :P

1. I like those things as well,
but I enjoy showing students Pollan's essay, "Corn Sex."

2. Hey, nobody is outlawing all ofthese things (at least not for now).
You'll be fine. I think there are a lot of peoplelike you who want what you want and when you want it. We have a free enterprise system, so you'll be able to get them...don't worry, be happy...everybody has choices and those are yours...

4. I don't feel that I have choices.
Getting good food without HFCS is very difficult if you don't cook it yourself.

6. I can, actually. I've rid myself of HFCS entirely but then I do a lot of cooking from scratch.
Not baking, because we don't eat a lot of baked goods, if at all. But cereal, salad dressing, mayonnaise, and any other stuff we don't use if there is HFCS in them.

I do very simple cooking for myself. Pan saute with olive oil, herbs, parsley, garlic, wine, sometimes diced tomatoes, mushrooms, brown rice, low glycemic pasta. We are blessed with some fresh ocean fish like flounder, sole, haddock, cod in New England waters (sometimes Canada). I cannot describe to you how delicious these fish are when they are fresh (wild) caught. It is like a different species of food entirely. This is why I LOVE living on the East Coast.
