OK, I absolutely loved the show (including the polarizing finale).

So can fans recommend books and other shows of a similar vein? Perhaps those that may have influenced the writers? I want to get back into reading fiction. I haven't found the time to dive into a good book in a while.

2. There's always the '60s TV show The Prisoner
That was actually one of the writers' inspirations for LOST.

4. Babylon Five
It really isn't similar but it is still the only show to start with a five year plan, an outlined beginning, middle, and end of its story. There were adjustments along the way but they only made it more interesting.

It was also one of the first shows to have a huge online community that communicated with its writer as the show was being produced. Thinking back on it, it was an early peek of the modern internet fan driven phenomenon.

So if you would like to see something that didn't seem to be making it all up as they went along I suggest Babylon Five. If you watch till the end of the first season you will be hooked.

6. I've seen most of the supposed methodones for Lost. Nothing cuts it.
I suggest just watching the re-runs over and over until you can't take it any more. You can figure on going through about 20 hours of TV time in a week (at a healthy pace), so re-viewing the whole series will take about 6 weeks. Go through this cycle twice and you'll be okay with the ending & the questions you still can't answer (like, why and starting when did Jacob start afflicting the women on the island so they couldn't have babies--or was that all Smokey's doing?) and you'll burn out on it. The cure at this rate takes about 3 months.

You'll be better just in time for the season 4 premier of Mad Men.

11. Seconded.
Start with the 2003 miniseries and then start with the regular episodes.

9. I've heard that the novel "The Moon Pool" by Abraham Merritt influenced Lost.
But I've never read it.
