The good news is....

...in 58 days, I will be leaving on a trip to Ohio to see my granddaughters.

The bad news? We're DRIVING. I've been conflicted about this, especially since the gulf 'spill'. Should I just give up my liberal cred? Because I am going, come hell or high water.

Then again, the plane is going whether you are on it or not. I like to drive. I drive for a living and I've been to the lower 48 and most of Canada aside from the northern territories. I think everyone should take at least one long road trip in their lifetimes.

2. well since it's 5 people going...

...the cost of the plane tickets was prohibitive. We should use about 2 or 3 hundred dollars for the gas, round trip.

3. Give yourself a little extra time if you can

to be able to stop and check things out here and there. Take a camera and post some pictures of your trip for us. I live in Dayton, Ohio, btw. What part of the state are you going to?

4. Tobin's right about flying

It's a resource-intensive way to travel. All of the ecological footprint calculators ding the score pretty heavily when the user flies.
