I think the number one example for me has to be The Big Lebowski, which is now one of my favorite movies of all time.

I have to say The Hangover has grown on me after watching it several times on HBO. I think there was so much hype about it when it first came out and I was a bit disappointed, but I find myself laughing at it more and more now.

1. This is Spinal Tap
I couldn't figure out if it was supposed to be real or not.

9. Actual, as a metal head at the time, the movie bugged me a bit.
Hit too close to home. :)

Now I love it, though I like A Mighty Wind even better.

11. I heard that a lot of bands had that complaint about the Spinal Tap movie.
Some were even convinced that it was about them. :D

13. I totally believe that.
My friends and I liked it (some of it is just too funny no matter what your current station in life), but some of it hit the metal pomposity so perfectly that it bugged us. I didn't watch the movie again for about 8 years or so, and then I laughed my ass off through the whole thing. But it's tough laugh at yourself in your teens.

Now that I'm 42 I find myself ridiculous! :)

3. Annie Hall.
I first saw it when I was in my 20s and found parts of it amused me, but I couldn't see what all the fuss was about. On watching it again years later, I really saw the comic brilliance. Of course Diane Keaton's performance has a great deal to do with that.

8. Moulin Rouge.
Took me three viewings to even decide if I liked it. Finally decided if I could watch it three times, I must at least not hate it. Strange film, but it wound up clicking for me.

15. Galaxie Quest
The opening few scenes set it up to be a really stupid movie, until you realize that they are INTENDED to come off that way. Once the seriousness of the situation sets in, it is both intense and funny. It is one of those you have to watch several times to pick up some of the funniest and most subtle lines.

17. Yeah, Lebowski is that way with me. Fargo also. It's the dialogue.
It just grabs you, over time, as you become more familiar with it.

19. Amazing Grace - it's a bio-pic about the people in Great Britain
who worked for years to outlaw the slave trade. I expect a bio-pic to be mostly by the numbers, but this one really stuck with me.

The first time I watched it I could barely keep my eyes open. The second time I saw it, I realized just how damned good that movie is.

21. Recent? Eyes Wide Shut:)
I know it was hyped before it came out, and watched it then. I thought Kubrick had lost his magic. Cruise and Kidman? Are you kidding me? :)

After quite a few views recently, it really settled with me.

Kubrick made another thought provoking movie.

24. Reservoir Dogs
I was repulsed, but upon reflection I realized that I was more offended at how the guys I saw it with idealized the violence than at the violence itself. "Aw, wasn't that cool--? The way he...and then when...and that time...!" All kinds of drool. Their reaction was annoyingly juvenile.

After a while I came to respect the direction, the pacing, the soundtrack, etc. But I still think all Tarantino films are self-indulgent to a degree.

26. I was bored to tears with Magnolia. Now I hate it with all my bile!
There is no evil in this world that compares to Magnolia!!!:puke:

Oh' and for you Magnolia fans... Yes I did get it. The message is trite. The movie does not suck. It is much more insidious than that! It is full on cinematic dry heaves! There is no disputing that, so don't even try.

27. I bought the Dvd Magnolia. It just sat in my apartment for a few years. Then I threw it out.
I never saw it. Now I'm glad I didn't. Thanks.
