Dr. Oz: Lack of Sex Could be Killing You
By AOL Health Editors Jun 22nd 2010 10:49AM
Categories: Healthy Living, Relationships

What is the No. 1 health problem in the United States? It's not obesity. It's lack of sex.

That's the word from Dr. Mehmet Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon who is the host of the syndicated "Dr. Oz Show." He insists that not having sex frequently enough could be killing you.

"People are no longer comfortable revving their engine in life," Dr. Oz told The Boston Herald. "What I hear in public is obesity, but what I hear in private is the sexual famine."

And if you're using that tired old excuse of being too sleepy for sex, Dr. Oz has a retort that will wake you up. Passing up sex just to go to sleep faster could be a life-or-death choice. "The average American has sex once a week, and we know from studies, that doubling that to twice a week can mean you live three years longer," he told the Herald. "I think you can say it's an excuse to have more sex."

Why are we so reluctant to get it on? Dr. Oz says women aren't as excited about the prospect of a little passion because they're getting short-changed in the sack. "One in seven women never has an orgasm. Is it an intimacy problem with the person you love? Or is it a physical problem?" he asked the Herald.

What is our biggest hang-up? We won't talk about it! "There is a general unwillingness to talk about it," Dr. Oz told the Herald. "When we don't face the reality of what our body is telling us, it's a disservice."

7. It doesn't, which proves Dr. Oz is full of shit
Had he said, "lack of ORGASMS can kill you," he might have had a point.

He's probably just butthurt because his wife won't fuck him.

the entire marathon is important...every little mile marker, though you tend to forget a lot of them after you cross the finish line...B-)

eta: I interpreted "activity" to mean "being active." Like exercise.

23. I saw him on Oprah a couple of years ago touting daily masturbation
He was going on about how everyone, be they 24 or 84, needs that cardio stimulation daily. I'm now stuck with the image of an 84 year old pleasuring him/her self every time I hear his name. It's Pavlovian.

You're welcome.

24. It amazes me
that Dr. Oz seems to find believers for his every comment outside his area of expertise.

The fact that he is a doctor does not give him knowledge about everything.

28. If you were familiar with Dr. Oz you would know he doesn't claim to know everything.
He consults experts in fields of knowledge outside his own area of expertise (he is a heart surgeon).

Aside from his tv show, Dr. Oz has done things to help people that we should applaud such as his free health care clinic in Houston: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/15/dr-ozs-free-clinics-help_n_323108.html

On Saturday, September 26, television personality Dr. Mehmet Oz hosted a free clinic in Houston, one that attracted over 1,700 people. It was the largest non-disaster-related free clinic in United States history.

The free clinic featured over 700 volunteers, 200 doctors and 300 nurses. Oz chose Houston because of its high rate of uninsured residents, nearly one out of every three. The Reliant Convention Center hosted Oz's team and volunteers from the National Association of Free Clinics, an organization mentioned on Countdown with Keith Olbermann and by the Stein family in a recent feature on HuffPost Impact.

Few of us here will accomplish in a lifetime in giving the help to people that Dr. Oz helped to give in 1 day.

37. It went several places....
The company "desperately" needed the money to stay out of bankruptcy. Of course, they went there anyway.

Thankfully, the management team that caused all the financial distress all had offshore "bankruptcy proof" pension accounts (provided by the company, of course), so it wasn't all bad.

That made me feel a lot better about all of it.

:sarcasm:
