12. I telecommute
12 steps downstairs to my office. I'm a contractor and my employers don't particularly care for it, but I insist. After they get used to it, they're fine with it.

14. Bus...
.
...and since I moved closer to work, I've cut my commute/wait for transfers time
down from about THREE hours a day (on top of a 10-hour shift) to about half of
that.
.
Usually it's very nice... but not all bus riders are very nice.
.
.
.
.
I don't use this trick here, but I learned how to keep the seat next to you free
unless the transportation is REALLY packed.
.
Hang about a foot-long piece of string out of your mouth.
.
.
Once, on a train from NYC to Philly, it was packed and this GORGEOUS woman in
a blouse tied up and a flower in her hair (that's ALWAYS made me goofy) was WAY
towards the front of the car, moving towards me and the only empty seat on that
car. There were about 10 people in front of her and through sheer willpower
(thinking, "DON'T SIT HERE DON'T SIT HERE DON'T SIT HERE DON'T SIT HERE), they
all passed that seat by as if it were invisible. SHE sat down, an art teacher at
a Philly junior college... and we started talking, and just before I got off the
train at a stop just before Philly, I worked up the nerve to ask her out.
.
Yes.
.
I was using a cane then after a bad motorcycle accident, but I was so high on
getting that date that I got 20 feet from the train before I realized that I had
left it beside my seat. I had to get back on, feeling like a big ol' FAKER, and
retrieve that cane and start using it again.
.
.
.
Yes.
.
.
.
I am a guy.
.

28. I leave the station 1 1/2 hours before my shift.
With that departure time I'm 20 minutes early. If I take the next train at 11:45 I either arrive exactly on time or up to 12 minutes late. For some reason the connections are not as closely spaced if I take the later train.

The really weird thing is my return trip always is 1:08 from my building on Wilshire in Korea Town to my station with almost no variance as long as I don't linger tying up loose ends. If I missed that train my commute home is 1 1/2 hours again.
