Instinctive kids. I was at the beach when I was 4. One of my grandmothers told
be to join my family near the water. I took a right instead of a left and daydreamed. I kept daydreaming and walking. After about 1/2 an hour i realized I was lost. This is where the instinctive part happens. I saw some teenagers and was very afraid of them. Then I spotted a nice lady playing with her kids. I watched the family for a while. Then I walked up to the mother and when I was about 5 feet away I burst into tears and started to wail. She, of course, turned to me and enveloped me in her arms. The whole family crowded around me and made me feel better until my poor mother came along..frantic.
3. most folks can spot a lost kid pretty quickly though -
but I agree that kids has some sense of who's ok to approach and who isn't. One time one of my younger brothers wandered away at the beach and was driven up in a police car - I don't remember whom he approached. Probably someone saw him wandering and directed him to the police station... This was a long time ago, though.
