Anybody here ever been through a hazing?
My hometown used to let the Sophomores haze the incoming Freshmen in our High School. I remember a lot of people dressed up in diapers or PJs. I had to dress up like a guy and sing "You light up my Life" to a guy dressed up like a woman. That was pretty sucky because we had to do it in the gym in front of the whole school, and I am a terrible singer. Lucky for me I can ham it up and laugh at myself, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

I don't recall if my lil bro had to go through that or if they had done away with it by then and switched to a mentor system instead.

My Dad was hazed when he made Chief in the Navy Reserves. I didn't see that whole event but I heard a bit about it. Definitely had to do some weird and stupid stuff.

1. Nothing serious.
Lots of binge drinking and the occasional taint waxing. Just typical frat stuff.

7. Freaky is one word for it.
Mentally and physically scarring are others.

3. I was initiated in to the Royal Order of the Shellbacks..
Just had to crawl on my hands and knees around a 300ft Destroyer while being smacked by seawater stiffened sections of fire hose, crawled through a 15 chute filled with week old garbage, had to kiss the belly button of the Royal Sea Baby (think of the fattest Chief Petty Officer's hairy belly button filled with axle grease). It is way worst then I post here, but that is the gist of it.

4. Yeah,that's more like what my dad went through. Among other things he had to
suck up raw eggs through the proboscis of a mosquito mask my mom made for him.

You've seem Animal House, right? That sort of thing. Fraternity hi-jinks. Stupid, silly stuff.

Actually, it is pretty difficult for me to believe that some of those guys are in the positions they are in today. Their patients, clients and constituents would, no doubt, be utterly horrified ....

Edit: correct spelling

9. We have a maritime academy here in town. I onced asked one of the marines if they do hazing but he
said, "We aren't allowed to haze. We just do bonding activities."

11. Even in my Academy years (long ago), it was all about how one defined "hazing"
Believe it or not, the Academy itself was a valuable experience, and one I'm glad I did (though wouldn't want to do again).

Hazing was one of the negatives, and in the 70s was part of life there.
