Zardoz

I am Arthur Frayn, and I am Zardoz. I have lived three hundred years, and I long to die. But death is no longer possible. I am immortal. I present now my story, full of mystery and intrigue - rich in irony, and most satirical. It is set deep in a possible future, so none of these events have yet occurred, but they *may.* Be warned, lest you end as I. In this tale, I am a fake god by occupation - and a magician, by inclination. Merlin is *my* hero! I am the puppet master. I manipulate many of the characters and events you will see. But *I* am invented, too, for your entertainment - and amusement. And you, poor creatures, who conjured *you* out of the clay? Is God in show business too?

Damn, I saw this movie, too many times. Anyone else?

1. I actually genuinely like the movie.
At least the story has more meat to it than some of those later SF blockbusters.

2. I saw this on the list of worst movies. I actually liked it.
First, it was the first time Sean Connery looked sexy to me (I had a thing for older men before "older" meant dead). And I have to admit a fondness for those weird stylized 70's sci-fi movies. I was impressionable, but it seemed thought-provoking, the idea that Utopia isn't Utopia, and that the fear of death and longing for death might war with one another if you actually had the choice. It's kitschy but I like it. I don't know how many time's I've seen it, though. Maybe four or five, and am not champing at the bit to see it again. But I might enjoy it again, too.

4. He reminds me of Heston in the Planet of the Apes movies.

Frankly, when I first saw it as a teen, I was too focused on Charlotte Rampling and her ginger chicks in their diaphanous tops.

But hey, how about that hipster mustache tattoo?
