Dentist appointment went okay.... one crown and a filling
Dang. 2 - 1/2 hours in the chair. I had about 6 shots of novocaine because it kept wearing off. My jaw ached from holding it open so long. But it's done. The best news is that the decay hadn't hit the nerve so I don't need a root canal. I was really worried about that because I'd maxed out my insurance benefit for the year already.

Thanks for all your good wishes last night!

3. He asked if I wanted vicodin....
I said no way, it makes me hallucinate. I told him I'd go home and have a beer or two. He suggested a couple motrin and maybe an ice pack if it hurt a lot.

So far, the only pain is listening to Lyin' Condi being replayed on all the news shows. I'm glad some of the panel gave her a hard time rather than rolling over and playing dead. Lou Dobbs is doing a good job of juxtaposing Dick Clarke and Condi's testimonies. Clearly they aren't telling the same story, one of them is not recalling correctly. (Wasn't that nice of me?)

4. You can buy her one as well.
Dental work survival trumps directionally-challenged in my book!

One from me, too !

2. Whew! So glad you didn't need a root canal!
2-1/2 hours, though - man, that's a long time in the chair. Was it because you had to keep breaking to pump in more novacaine?

Did it hurt much?

p.s. - the dentist who pulled my tooth last year, when I mentioned to him, "Wow - you're pumping a boatload of novacaine into me, should I be afraid?" said, "You know, no one's used novacine for about 20 years. We use" then he told me all about it, none of which I remember, but he said everyone wh isn't a dentists still calls the numbing agent novacaine. I thought that was kinda cool and interesting.

5. Maybe it wasn't novocaine -- I just assumed.
I didn't ask what it was. When it started to wear off, which means when I felt anything, I whined. I wasn't about to be heroic about it. It was enough just to stay put for that long. The worst part painwise was the last few minutes. When they put the goop in my mouth to make the temporary crown, I had to keep my jaws clenched for five minutes. It hurt so bad!

Thanks for helping me get through this. It was pretty traumatic -- even if it was uneventful.

7. Oh, yeah - the goop thing, I forgot about that!

That was probably the worst for me, too - especially for one of my teeth when the holder for the goop stuff was pushing into my gums. That was really painful. Worse than the drilling.

And don't worry about the novacaine thing - I had no idea until I asked him abnout it, and I'd never had a dentist correct me before on it. And, truth to tell, since I still don't know what's really called, I call it novacaine.
