So much for child labor law: Two Year old mans cash register - True STory
http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/news/weird_news/8384734.htm

NEW IBERIA, La. - Formosa Gardens restaurant has an unusual worker manning the cash register: 2-year-old Gordon Tan. "He can do the credit card machine too," said his mother, Tiffany Lei, who owns the restaurant with Gordon's father, Jason Tan.

It was a busy day in January at the restaurant when Gordon first climbed up onto a chair, took customers' tickets, rang up totals on the register, took the cash, then counted out their change - correctly, Lei said. Earlier that month, he had celebrated his second birthday.

Gordon's father said the toddler can tell credit cards from debit cards. He swipes them and enters the four-digit code to complete the sale.

When Gordon's not at the register, he's walking around the restaurant helping with day-to-day operations, said Patricia Durand, a customer. He runs to the back of the store to tell his parents how many customers just walked in. He knows the number assigned to each table, so he knows where to seat them, too.

Being this is a family business I have no problem. But I do expect my Maitre D' to be potty trained. :)

4. Legal, oddly enough
There's no age limit if you work for your parents in non-hazardous jobs.
Cute.

7. So feeding people
is not as important as accepting a professorship in the maths or sciences?

8. its important, but...
you can pull anyone off the street to feed people. its pretty rare that somone is that smart at the age of two. to not utilize it would be a bad decision. only my opnion, thats all. not lookin for a fight lol

9. I disagree
but I also am not looking to fight :-) All I'm saying, as someone who has worked in restaurants and has a chef for a father, is you can't just pull in anyone off the street and stand them in front of the stove. Unless you don't like your customers, that is.

The important thing is I'm sure we both agree this kid is something else :-)

10. I don't think child-labor laws apply to family businesses.
Daddy and Mommy can exploit junior as much as they want.

11. Sounds like Gordon's having a good time...
They're starting him in daycare soon...doesn't sound like his parents are forcing him to help. I bet he'll get one helluva scholarship one day!

12. Wait a minute, I saw this on an episode of "The Simpsons"
Except that that kid whipped out a shotgun and was ready for business!

I agree that it's not an abuse of child labor, the little kid probably has the time of his life doing it... he gets to help, which kids love to do at that age, and I'm sure he gets just tons of attention from the customers.
