YOU can help us get rid of Tom DeLay!
Look at this from the WaPo:

"If death comes from a thousand cuts, Tom DeLay is into a couple hundred, and it's getting up there," said a Republican political consultant close to key lawmakers. "The situation is negatively fluid right now for the guy. You start hitting arteries, it only takes a couple." The consultant, who at times has been a DeLay ally, spoke on the condition of anonymity, saying he could not be candid otherwise.

Now read this, from TIME:

After the debacle over the ethics rules, more than a few House members say they can ill afford to put their necks out much farther for DeLay. And their support could erode further—and quickly—if they start hearing complaints about DeLay from their constituents at home. "As members head home, they'll review the various media reports," says Arizona's Hayworth, who has been burned by revelations that he used a skybox supplied by Abramoff for fund raising. "I'm sure that it's in the best interest of the majority leader and the majority to have an accounting of what transpired."

Emphasis mine.

Every single one of you reading right now needs to take a five-minute break and call your Representative right now. Especially if your Representative is GOP.

Get the number out of Campaign Underground. Use your cellphone if you have no LD. Say something like:

"I think it's disgusting that Representative John Doe hasn't spoken out about all of the corruption and dirty dealing being reported about Tom DeLay. It's something worse every day. I'm beginning to think he must be a crook, and I don't understand why the GOP keeps looking the other way. They're going to have do something about this mess."

Make the call.

3. My rep is a DeLay acolyte -
just called. They sounded surprised. I didn't identify as a dem - just said I'm a citizen appalled by the depth of DeLay's corruption and want my Rep to speak up for moral values. (I love being able to throw that in their faces!)

Thanks!

4. That's PERFECT

If you're not already well-known in their offices for calling, now's the best time to do so.

If you say something similar to what I posted and what you said about moral values, it will have the greatest effect.

This is CRITICAL for those of you living outside of Texas, and those of you who are represented by Republicans.

Death of a thousand cuts. That dripping you're hearing is Tom DeLay's political blood. The millions of dollars he's raised can't save him if the pressure on his cronies becomes too much for them to bear. And that's what happens when his crap starts splashing on them.

5. Capitol switchboard toll-free number??????
1. I used to call 1-800-TEX5ARM but that does not work any more. Does anyone know of another number?

2. Try your Rep's LOCAL office. Chances are they are less busy than DC.

DO IT!

to contact your Representatives in Washington.

http://www.house.gov/

...lists the switchboard number. But if you go to this link:

http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/index.html

you can locate your representative's direct-dial office number.

A phone call will be a bit more effective than an e-mail (I have been told this many times in trainings as a lobbyist, and that is my personal experience as well). Snail mail is supposed to be the most effective way (for obvious reasons; anyone who takes the time to write something out will get greater attention).

You can contact any of the district offices as well, but since they are in session, any message you leave in Washington for the Representative stands a better chance of being relayed. The most valuable staffers -- evn the ones answering the phones, taking constituent calls -- will be in DC, rather than in the district right now.

Edited on Mon Mar-14-05 04:11 PM by vademocrat
Here's a link to "Roll Call" for contact info:
http://capwiz.com/rollcall/home/

Type in your zip code and get all your reps - click on the picture and all contact info (DC # and local district #) is listed

edit to add: My dad worked on Cap Hill for over 30 yrs and every Rep he worked for had permanent staff in the district offices. He retired 10 yrs ago so maybe things have changed

10. I'd do it, but...
...my representative is Steve King, a neocon DeLay-lover, so it'd be fruitless.

11. There is another way
Try joining freeway blogger.com

http://www.freewayblogger.com/

even posting signs at a local supermarket works also. It gets more people than the network news does. Thats for sure.

13. Yep, he's mine too...
I've sent him messages, and always receive the obligatory (and meaningless) form letter 5 months later. I wonder how much he cares about his constituents' views. I get the feeling he's one of those that just does as he pleases, rather than actually represent us.

12. Demand an Honest Ethics Process to Probe!
I will make some phone calls on this! Thank you for starting this thread!

Excerpt from Common Cause email:

"Just as new scandals concerning alleged ethical violations by House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) and other Members have erupted in recent days, the House Ethics Committee has become virtually powerless. The reason? Rules passed at the beginning of 2005 make it virtually impossible for the Committee to launch any investigation of unethical conduct. We are writing to ask for your help to resolve the gridlock in the Ethics Committee.

Rep. Alan Mollohan (D-WV), the senior Democrat on the Ethics Committee, is leading the charge to reject the new rules and is calling on his House colleagues, Democrats and Republicans, to join him in cosponsoring a resolution that would roll back the most onerous rule changes.

We believe it is absolutely critical that members of both parties join Rep. Mollohan in overturning the controversial ethics rules in order to ensure an honest and effective ethics process. This is why we need you to urge your Member of Congress, and the House leadership, to co-sponsor the Mollohan resolution (H.Res. 131).

Now is the time we need an effective ethics process, which will ensure proper investigation into all of the latest alleged transgressions by DeLay and other members of Congress. Rep. Mollohan's resolution would reverse the "party protection act," the worst of the new ethics rules that would effectively dismiss a complaint in the event of a deadlock within the ethics committee, which is equally divided between Democrats and Republicans.

Mollohan's resolution would also do away with a "45 day rule" which allows an investigation to drop if the committee takes no action in that amount of time. Lastly it would reverse the "collusion" rule that allows one lawyer to represent more than one individual involved in an ethics investigation, thereby providing an opportunity for the individuals to corroborate their stories. So, please join us today in support of Rep. Mollohan's resolution asking for an honest ethics process.

Capitol Hill is still buzzing from all your calls and letters last week pushing for investigations of the new DeLay ethics scandals. The Washington Post noted today how the GOP leaders are getting weary of DeLay's ever growing ethics problems. "
