3. Money Stamps
I haven't seen the origin or nature of this thread but think I know what it's about. I have two
stamps for my bills. Both say "GAY MONEY." I love to drop these purple stamped bills at the local
grocery store and big stores and in Provincetown etc. I've had little town shop owners really pissed that they
had a $100 bill in hand, stamped - "GAY MONEY"

4. VERY bad idea
It is illegal to deface currency. Do you want you message to be associated with something illegal? Do you want repukes screaming that liberals are defacing currancy and breaking the law?

No, that is a very stupid idea!

6. You are 100% wrong on that....
It is NOT illegal to deface US paper currency.

I researched this because I have begun to do just that -- stamp my money with my website address.

The only thing that is considered illegal is marking/changing it to gain benefit (financial) from it.

That is the SOLE circumstance.

You are free to write "Geogre W. Bush is a fucking idiot" on any bill you choose to.

See the following website:

http://www.lawforkids.org/QA/other/other93.cfm

Question 93: Is it illegal to deface money?

Answer: There is no law or statute against simply writing on a cash bill. For instance, it is not against the law to draw giant red lips on George Washington's portrait on the front of a One Dollar Bill.

However defacing currency with the intent to alter the bill to gain a benefit is illegal. If someone alters a written instrument (such as a check) without permission and with the intent to gain a benefit, then it is called forgery, which is a crime. If one tried to alter a cash bill (like changing a $5 bill to a $20 bill) for the purpose of presenting the altered bill to gain a benefit, then that could be considered a forgery. Forgery of United States Currency in this manner is called counterfeiting and carries with it very stiff penalties.

7. You are simply wrong.

It is only illegal to deface currency if that defacement makes the currency unusable by obscuring it's value. It requires fraudulent intent.

On edit; Ooops, I should have read the previous post before I hit the reply button.
