NBC News and the Wall Street Journal have released
their latest polling, and the results are right in line with the other two major national polls which show only a tiny Bush bounce with the capture of Saddam Hussein.
Also, confounding so-called political "experts," Howard Dean's support held steady (within the margin of error) during the weekend, as did the support for other Democrats. He now has a large and statistically significant national lead among Democrats with 25 points (29 points Saturday) -- over twice the support of any other candidate in his party. This is one of the largest Dean national leads yet reported. Clark and Gephardt are tied at 11 points apiece, and the remaining candidates failed to reach double digits.
Bush's job approval ratings went from 52 points on Saturday to 58 points on Sunday -- only slightly outside the margin of error.
N=512 for each poll, MOE=+/- 4.3%, two polls conducted 12/13/03 and 12/14/03 by Hart-Teeter Associates for NBC/WSJ.
On edit: Adding standard disclaimers, which are that: (1) public opinion polls are imprecise; (2) polls reflect only a moment in time; (3) the Democratic nomination process is not a national primary; (4) public opinion can and does change over time.
On second edit: Improved some of the language to better relay the facts in this poll. Added comma in title.
