Clark has depth on domestic issues

I'm sitting here watching Clark have a pancake breakfast in Nashua NH, and he's answering questions on domestic issues like healthcare and outsourcing jobs to India off the top of his head with examples from history. The one that sticks in my mind is his comparison of outsourcing of software jobs to India to the British loss of its dominance of the steel industry 100 years ago. He points out that Britain invested in the American steel industry by outsourcing, and over a 30 year period, lost their dominance of the market. With software jobs, he points out that there isn't the time-consuming capital investment of factories, etc.; in this case, the loss of dominance can be immediate. He then goes on to make some sensible suggestions about what to do to counteract it (watch Clark on C-SPAN if you want to know what he's suggesting).

If you think Clark is foreign policy only, think again. He's the real deal, a good leader with intelligence and integrity.

1. He explained how big pharma markets drugs, too...(I wish had
mentioned how much they get in subsidies).

And, going back to foreign affairs, when asked about Chechnya, he gave a comprehensive answer there, too, including the history and his approach.

On the way out, he was asked about Libya...and he said it reflect a previous approach for nearly 10 years that succeeded...an approach that has been thrown out by Bush.

I want to hear more about Libya in the future....

3. What about when
he taught the majority of the audience all about the history of Chechnya and Russia? Bet lots of folks didn't know what he told them about that.

This man is our dream candidate....and if we let him go...to nominate a loser instead, I will never forgive America! In particular, the Democratic party!

5. I know what you mean
When I hear Kerry talk on various issues with complete knowledge of the history, particulars and solutions; I am totally blown away. So I know what you mean about Clark too, I've enjoyed listening to him speak in the same way. It boggles my mind that we could let either/both pass us by.

"I want an average joe, someone like me, to be President." In the words of my 17 year old, "Why? Are you qualified to be President?"

6. His health care proposals
--are the typical bandaid garbage. I was poor as a kid because my goddam PARENTS had serious chronic health problems, and he thinks that making them buy insurance for us healthy rugrats would have solved the family problem. Thanks, General, but no thanks.

9. Golly, Clark can't solve everyone's problems?
What about the "you have the power" guy?

He got solutions you'd like better?

How about Bush? Hey, maybe NO solution is better than something, right?

My family was as poor as white people in New York could get and still not apply for welfare(stupid? proud? you call it) and all four of us kids managed some level of success. Everyone of us worked our way through four year colleges and made our way on our own.

Does that mean we shouldn't have empathy with other people who have problems? Not in my book. Sorry you had a tough childhood. Get over it.

10. Slick enough to send Bush into a spin
But thanks for commenting. If we don't get criticised by you guys once or twice a thread we start thinking we're doing something wrong.

11. Intelligence - yes. Integrity - no
Listen, he has the smarts to have learned how to be a Democrat before he announced, but he didn't do it. Which is why he kept saying nutty things like he was a Democrat because he was pro-abortion (!) and pro-health.
Maybe he has learned a few things but he doesn't know them from experience (like Edwards) or from years of legislating (like Kerry and Gephardt).
And I still trust Generals Shelton and Schwarzkoff, both of whom said he had an integrity-deficit. His work as a lobbyist for some pretty bad actors didn't help.

And he can't win. He wrote and starred in the Bush re-election ads. The RNC will run those ads of his praise for Bush whether he is the candidate or not, but if he is the nominee, they won't have to run anything else. (Maybe I need to rethink that "intelligence" answer)

12. ridiculous
If Clark is ever pregnant and unhappy about it, we can find out whether he is "pro-abortion". He's pro-choice. Is there an anti-choice Democratic candidate this year? There hasn't been a Republican candidate for President that was pro-choice since... since... help me out here, was Nixon pro-choice? I think not.

And regarding Shelton, I'd be interested to hear what other views he has that you agree with. You believe an offhand comment by Shelton that contradicts what he had previously said about Clark, and which he will neither back up nor repeat. A Bush crony like Shelton would probably say that anyone Clinton likes must have a character problem, based on no other evidence than Clinton's opinion!

The statement I saw Schwartzkopf make was that _Shelton_ said there was a character problem, so there is only one person making that completely unsupported claim. Schwartzkopf has since made it clear he has no personal negative opinion on Clark's character.

Then there is retired General Barry McCaffrey, who says Shelton has no basis for his statements. People who still bring up Shelton's comment are really desperate for something to attack Clark with. Get real.
