This is funny because a few weeks ago, one of the talking points was that the candidate who is far behind (Hillary) the front runner (Obama) always pulls that political stunt to act like the front runner is avoiding him/her.

So now, McCain has pulled the stunt of saying that he sent Obama a letter "daring" him to face him in a bunch of debates.

Well, we all knew that McCain was desperate ...

1. Debates are exactly what will sink him...
We've yet to see his legendary hot temper during this campaign. I for one am ready to see him sink his own ship.

7. Exactly

I was thinking the same thing. Kind of like what a prosecutor does to get a witness who is calm & collected to all of a sudden lose his temper in front of the jury, revealing his true self. Even if McCain doesn't lose his temper, he still has to run on more occupation in Iraq and more of the same economic policies. I just don't see McCain doing well in these debates. I don't know what his thought process was for challenging Obama to these debates.

8. I agree with the OP on why McCain did this...
Just to be first, to be seen as the one who wants to get the ball rolling so as to avoid being seen as a debate avoider.

10. That's like the saying "Y'all come back now!"
Say "when" and you'll get a mix of vacant, shocked and horrified stares.

Say "Yes" Obama.

3. If this is an example of McBush's judgment and insight, we'll be wiping the floor in November

4. Was it a debate or an invitation to take questions from some pro-McCain townhall group?

6. I guess McCain is gonna be relatively cash strapped and wants to carpool with Barack to the debates.

9. McCain supposedly does well in town meetings
He will still look old and tired. I think Obama will tie him up in knots.

12. Bring It!
I would have Obama debate McCain every single day for the rest of the campaign. Obama will snap that has-been off at the knees without breaking a sweat.
