Five Good Things That Have Already Happened As A Result Of The Presumptive Nomination Of Barack H. Obama
Barack Obama
by Brady Bonk | June 5, 2008

1. Instant Campaign Finance Reform: Barack Obama is a one-man campaign finance reform program. He has won the nomination while eschewing big lobbyist money, counting instead on the more renewable resource of small donors. This ethic has led to today's development, #2.

2. The Democratic National Committee announced today that it will no longer accept contributions from registered federal lobbyists or political action committees. This isn't a certainty yet, just an announcement, but it certainly is a bold step toward solving the most essential political dilemma of our time, the tainting of politics with money.

3. A vote of confidence for Howard Dean as head of the DNC. It was announced today that Dean would stay on. Dean has been a sublime chairman, and with a real live Presidential Candidate Superstar, he should now be able to fly.

4. News out today is that Obama will run on the 50-state strategy, which they've already begun with Obama's visit yesterday to Abingdon, Va. The 50-state strategy is brilliant. Not only is it a better way to campaign for national office, but it creates a stronger political infrastructure for Congressional races. Obama's coattails are going to stretch behind him for miles.

5. A brand new shiny model for Democrats has been introduced regarding the issue of national security. Obama has introduced a way for Democrats to stop losing on this issue and to at last effectively make the case that it's the Republigoats, not we Dems, who suck at keeping us safe. To make this development even shinier, this approach was unveiled to AIPAC, one of the most hard-core acronyms in Washington—and it was received warmly.

3. I'm trying to find something I read last night...
about the six committees he has formed to work the entire country. It went on to emphasize what a tight ship Obama runs. There were no leaks, no campaign in-fighting, and he is going with firms that are new in DC, not the old ones that have axes to grind all over town!

Breath of fresh air!

Breaking: Howard Dean To Stay As Chair Of The DNC
By Greg Sargent - June 5, 2008, 11:53AM

Here's the statement, sent over by Obama campaign spokesperson Bill Burton:

"Senator Obama appreciates the hard work that Chairman Dean has done to grow our party at the grassroots level and looks forward to working with him as the chairman of the Democratic Party as we go forward."

Historically, a DNC chair's tenure is uncertain once a nominee is chosen, since said nominee might want to install his own guy there, but as Ben Smith notes, Dean has a power base built up among state party chairs across the country who love his 50-state strategy of investing in them.

The DNC earlier today confirmed that Obama had installed his man Paul Tewes to serve as his eyes and ears at the organization, a sign that Obama is moving quickly to re-shape the party in his own image. Obama's party, it turns out, will include Dean at the top of the DNC.
