Bill Maher for president
Okay while I'm not really serious, how awesome would it be if he ran as a Democrat. The guy has a very animated personality, a great sense of humor, he's very intelligent, and in my opinion has more common sense than any of the current candidates. Yeah I'm dreaming but wow that would just be so cool.

1. Um
No. If he's a Libertarian, he should run as a Libertarian.

4. Didn't say he WAS a Democrat
First of all he said he was considering endorsing a Democratic candidate. Secondly I said it would be cool if he would run as a Democrat. He agrees with Democrats on a lot of issues and is Libertarian in the sense of government should not ban marajuana. However he doesn't seem at all to be Libertarian in the sense that he's against government social programs.

8. If he's all that you cut him out to be,
maybe he should change his party affiliation to "Democratic." That would put an end to the confusion.

2. Democrat? Looks to me he's going over to the dark side ala Dennis Miller.

Maher said, "What's the big deal over the 16 words in the state of the union address?" He added that there were already good enough reasons for getting Saddam anyway. Bill didn't have the intestinal fortitude to call Chimpy a lying sack of shit.

He can stay joined at the hip with his pal Ann Coulter for all I care.

3. I don't think you understood his statement
Edited on Mon Aug-25-03 10:03 PM by Hippo_Tron
1) He opposed the war, by good enough reasoning he meant congress would've approved the war 16 words or not. Of course this is kind of an obvious fact in itself as the State of the Union was after congress approved the war.

2) He says that the 16 words in the state of the union aren't a big deal because it was damn obvious that Bush is a liar anyway. He said that we do need to hold Bush acountable for his actions but in the interest of the country we don't need a scandal against Bush JUST because they did it to Clinton. I agree with him 100%, we should be able to win an election with a relatively clean campaign. That's not to say we should criticize Bush but I see no reason why we need to plaster all over the place BUSH IS A LIAR!!! People can not only find substantial argument to disagree with it, they really don't like it at all. We should win the next election with a serious platform that we know will be better for the country than the Bush plan because our ultimate goal should be the welfare of the country.

3) Just because he didn't call Bush a "lying sack of shit" by no means makes him a Bush supporter nor means that he doesn't think Bush is a liar. In fact he even said that Bush did lie all along and we should've known it.

7. YEAH!!
What was that?? I thought Rod Serling was going to step into my living room and tell me I was in the Twilight Zone when I watched Dennis Miller's last HBO special. And maybe it was just me, but I didn't think he was nearly as funny. The only thing I could think is that he was trying to regain that Monday Night Football gig.

9. I'd recommend reading his book
Or watching a few more clips of his show or interviews, and I highly doubt you'd think that. The guy was personally chewed out by Ari for christ sakes! No other comedian/activist/pundit has that honor.

10. I don't think he'll be able to remake himself
He has not only alienated the right, but people on the left as well. It's difficult to get wide appeal when a person comes across as cocky-sure as he does. In addition, he is on record complaining when he became the subject of an airport security check. Apparently he felt that they should be targeting Americans of darker persuasion. Those kind of decisions don't usually translate to vote-getters.

What concerns me about Libertarians is that they know that they will never get wide appeal as a third party, so they try to "blend" into one of the two parties so they can come in under the radar. You don't really know the extent of their views, until it's too late. Which is why I recommend he run as a Libertarian if he really politically leans that way. It would be the honest thing to do for the voters.
