Kucinich into #2 on MeetUp?
If you look at the numbers on clark and kucinich right now...Kucinich is like 20 people ahead. Wasn't he behind Clark by like 300 yesterday? What has made this jump possible?

Kerry has slipped back to 4th.

1. Are you really that excited
That Kucinich is #2 at 9,800 , with barely over a tenth of what Dean (the #1 at 92,000) has?

MY GOD...every post on this board no matter what it is about comes back to worshipping Dean. I am soo sick of hearing about him I think that more than anything is what is turning me from him! Can't we talk about any other candidates ever without some plug about how great Dean is!?

4. Then let's talk about Clark and Kucinich
Isn't odd that a guy like Clark, who isn't even running yet, is doing so well? He is tied with Kucinich, who is actively campaigning and whose campaign is promoting MeetUp.

10. Depends on who is targeted for your campaign...
...there are many who are not on computers...

And also who is promoting and paying for the campaigns...I would imagine that is a factor...I agree Meetup is only an indication of people connected online...there is a vast amjority that has never heard of or is not interested in Meetups....

.....doesn't really show the whole picture....

Pretty cool tool though :)

Peace DR

19. True, there are lots of other ways to guage support
Polls, money raised, and endorsements are some other methods.

22. the people who are gonna support us DR
are the people without technology, the backbone of the country. He's in second place good for him, maybe we shall get that momentum boost after all.

21. I guess America is looking for a new frontrunner
Perhaps in a few months, the frontrunner will be an honest candidate, like Kucinich or Clark.

17. Honey, I am not an idiot and your attitude is a turnoff
I have not rejected him based on your actions, believe me ...there are plenty of other reasons not to choose Dean....

Like attracts like...and you are not the first Dean supporter with the attitude that he has been annointed as the "chosen one"....I find it annoying and a turnoff....

But when you tell me Dean is THE CHOICE and insult my intelligence by calling me an idiot...that, my friend, is arrogance...and that is also how your actions affect his candidacy.

Dean is merely " A " choice...one of a number at this point...don't get too carried away with his popularity...things can turn on a dime you know...

Peace
DR

3. Is Dean really that needy
That his followers are willing to risk alienating potential voters by taking every opportunity to lord their candidate over others?

7. Many college campuses opened yesterday....
Edited on Wed Aug-27-03 11:39 AM by Desertrose
our meetup has gone from 50 to over 100 from the info we currently have! and the meetup still has a week to go.....DK is gonna take off among college students ...and the word IS getting out...

(FWIW- I am trying really hard to ignore all the Dean-o-rama threads here...I am happy people are enthused about their candidate...thats a good thing...I'm just not so sure the candidate is worthy of it all...but hey, don't jump me folks ...its only one tiny little opinion ...it makes no nevermind in the larger scheme of what will be....just keep your eyes, minds & hearts open and the BS detector set on high)

Peace
DR
edited to add- italicized part above, goes for ALL the candidates....

14. Many Dean supporters have highly favorable opinions of Dennis
and have contributed to his campaign. Even if he is not the nominee, he provides valuable input to the debate. If he is the nominee, he'll get massive support from DU'ers.

Good luck in your efforts.

because I did a search on Wellstone and you know how searches are well I saw this in a Dean fourm, and these Deannies were insulting him. God forbid they know about what this man has done.

15. Speaking for only one county,
LESS THAN 1/2 of the avowed Kucinich supporters have computers. Some try to get the THREE public library computers for news, but you can't do meet-ups and regular campaign computer updates there.

We set up a telephone tree to keep our Kucinich people informed, and take the computer info to all the meetings.

But we WON'T BE HAVING A MEET-UP ON THE 4TH EITHER. Many of our DK supporters are going to Albuquerque for a BIG STATE-WIDE RALLY THERE, and to watch the Presidential debates with other supporters.

Non-recognized meet-ups will be taking place in homes all over the state TO WATCH THE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE.

There are a lot of non-computer DK supporters in the Twin Cities area.

27. Yep, revcarol...
we, too, have folks coming to our meetings who do not have or want internet access. We have to call them each week to make sure they know where to go. Plus our populations are so heavily centered in OKC and Tulsa that there are many living in the more rural areas farther from town that can't make meetings on an evening during the week.

And let's not even forget my folks back in Ohio that have no internet access either but are getting heavy doses of Kucinich info and showing interest. ;)

Lots of factors to consider in the MeetUp numbers.

Peace~
Monica

25. Interesting.
Its a decision between those that want to win NOW at all costs (Clark supporters)despite the fact that issues we care about would take 30 year-never to become law and those who want issues they care about to be implemented sooner like withing 12 years (Kuccinich supporters )but possibly having a slightly larger chance of loosing to Bush .

I am beginning to strongly reject the hatred of Bush only because it seems to be destroying us from within . Id gladly let bush have another 4 years of it means we could get genuine progressive laws on the books 8-12 years from now . Not that thats the reality (I reject the idea that Clark is unbeatable and Kuccinich is certain to loose to Bush mind you) of the situation but for the sake of argument Ill accept it.

All this talk about Liebermann and Clark leading the polls has done one thing for me though. I can now accept Howard Dean alot more easier now that I know the alternatives to him are what they are.Howard Dean seems to be the lesser of the evils I am coming to accept but if that moderate looses then we will all wish to god that we nominated Kucinich so we could lay the groundwork for a progressive in 2008 . Infact 2008 might be a repeat of 2004 with us nominating a loosing moderate plus splitting the left and hurting our grassroots appeal.

Anyway I strongly support Kucinich and Ill never forget when he and a right winger Curt Weldon (!) were on that MSNBC show (some blonde conservative) in 1999 criticising the Yugoslavia conflict and they had just got back from Russia and were talking about their peace discussions with the Russians . The blonde conservative then said about how Weldon and Kucinich were demoralizing our troops (many war supporters claimed that) who were fighting the enemy and Weldon shouted out "that is bullshit" and then started going off. Kuccinich obviousilly concured with Weldon but took a much more moderate tone and simply said about the importance of peace and how we need to talk to the "holy father" and Russians and everybody to try and solve problems through peaceful means. Funny thing is that several active duty military personnel came into my house later that day (Im ex military myself)and told me they thought the Yugoslavia war was "crazy" . Weldon was right for once it was "bullshit" and Im sad to see that Democratic tactics mimic those of Bush questioning the support of troops . Replacing Bush with like minded Democrats even if they are "D" doesnt get me excited in the least. As much as I strongly disagree with Bush I am trying extra hard to not hate him in the least because the hatred is poison that causes us to want to nominate ANYBODY the media presents as a "winner" and we know that usually is somebody "moderate" but not moderate in the least in reality (tell Yugoslavians about certain generals "moderation" ).
