The Christian Right and Al Qaeda
I have posted this in the General area too. I think this is very important information so I think it needs to be posted here too.

A little research has dug up some very strange links. I believe it deserves to be looked at. Could this prove that there is a connection of some sort between these two dangerous groups.

The Mujahideen - Later to become Al Qaeda and the Taliban
Paul Weyrich (Referred to as the father of the Christian Right) founded and funded Americans for Afghan Action and he also funded the Committee for a Free Afghanistan. Both of these groups were pro-Mujahideen.
Pat Robertson was a fund-raiser for the CFA.

Long Before 9/11
Jerry Falwell got a loan for $1 million from the owner of Dekker's Flight School which trained 2 of the Hijackers, Mohammed Atta and Marwan al-Sheiki.
Pat Robertson entered into an investment, mining diamonds, with Liberian dictator Charles Taylor.

After 9/11
Jerry Falwell tried to take political advantage of 9/11, blaming his enemies for the attacks.
Al Qaeda terrorists gave $1 million to Charles Taylor in return for sanctuary in Liberia. Where did Al Qaeda get the money? They got it from Liberian Diamonds.
Pat Robertson defended Charles Taylor saying America should not tell him step down.

Info on Paul Weyrich
Info on Pat Robertson
Info on Jerry Falwell

Is this more than a coincidence? I think it is.

2. Its because the Islamists were at war with the Soviet communists

back then. Thats why they supported bin Laden et al. As much as they hate Islam, they probably hate Atheism more. But alot of their views on moral issues are similar to bin Laden; so there is a shared interest there. It wouldn't surprise me if at some point in the future conservative-muslims here join the christian-conservatives as part of the republican base.

edit: Just read over 'TheocracyWatch'. They lose credibility in my mind by having too much of a left-wing slant. They should stick to religion and civil liberties and leave 'economics' and 'govt regulation', etc... out of it. Being 'conservative' on fiscal matters doesn't mean you have to be a religous fundamentalist. But this site seems to suggest that you do. Also, many of the religious right are actually left on economics - but the 'moral' issues matter more to them so they end up supporting the republican party.

3. I have to be honest

I can no longer tell who is conservative/liberal/radical or just plain nuts.

Payl Weyrich=devious and nuts
Pat Robertson=nuts
Jerry Falwell=nuts

These are people who believe in the end-times scenario. Or so they will say. They are fixated on the idea that they are in charge of "helping" the very God they claim is all powerful. Throwing a million around here or there is nothing to them. Afterall the Roman Catholic church has been doing that for eons. And the RCC have been and are continuing to play their international cards too.

I suppose one of the differences today versus some date in yesterday is that we had not committed ourselves to a preemptive war led by the Nixonian set that caused us so much trouble years ago.

We have a confluence of issues at this time, politics, religion and an election. Like making a mental diagnosis of schizophrenia, traumatic brain damage and conduct disorder. Progosis, very poor.

4. You are absolutely correct
To paraphrase a quote I once have seen: "The Christians and Muslims may hate each other, but when faced with a common enemy, they will unite." But I think it may go just a bit deeper than this.

I don't think we will or should forget and forgive the CIA for training Osama and really being responsible for putting the Taliban in power, but now we know that the Christian Right supported them too.

Besides, I've listed more than just the war with the Communists. What do make of the fact that Robertson and Taylor's mutual interest? What about the fact that Falwell got a loan from the owner of the flight school that trained 2 of the hijackers?
