FYI new outsourcing book
Edited on Sun Apr-24-05 02:08 AM by Robert Oak
Dr. Ron Hira and Dr. Ani Hira, have written an analysis book on
outsourcing:

I haven't read it yet, on order, but I am sure this is good
because Ron Hira is the IEEE public policy director and has written
some very in depth analysis papers on use of H-1B as a comparative
advantage by India esp. to gain expertise and industry know how in
the IT field. So instead of outrage and frustration I'm hoping
we all read it to start pressuring for solutions.

Paul Craig Roberts commentary on book (considers it very important!):
http://www.counterpunch.com/roberts04192005.html

In what might be an underestimate, a University of California study concludes that 14 million white-collar jobs are vulnerable to being outsourced offshore. These are not only call-center operators, customer service and back-office jobs, but also information technology, accounting, architecture, advanced engineering design, news reporting, stock analysis, and medical and legal services. The authors note that these are the jobs of the American Dream, the jobs of upward mobility that generate the bulk of the tax revenues that fund our education, health, infrastructure, and social security systems.

The loss of these jobs "is fool's gold for companies." Corporate America's short-term mentality, stemming from bonuses tied to quarterly results, is causing US companies to lose not only their best employees-their human capital-but also the consumers who buy their products.

1. 1st chapter looks good
This book does not look like a rant, from the looks of the first chapter there is a lot of interesting information offered.

They are both Professors, so statistics and facts are checked...

which is my position also, if one looks at what is going on
plus the empirical evidence, trade, offshore outsourcing,
use of VISAS to bring in cheap labor will bring the United States
as a nation state to a 3rd world economy...in other words, disaster.

What's most interested to note is how they point out a lot of
"Offshoring is good for America" "think tank" papers are actually
corporate sponsored and inaccurate.
