U.S. requests more info on Adobe's Macromedia acquisition
DOJ asks for additional documents related to the companies' Web authoring, Web design products

By James Niccolai, IDG News Service
July 12, 2005

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has requested more information from Adobe Systems (Profile, Products, Articles) and Macromedia (Profile, Products, Articles) before it will sign off on their planned $3.4 billion merger agreement announced in April, the companies said.

In its second request for information, the DOJ has asked for additional documents and materials related to the companies' products for Web authoring, Web design, and vector graphics illustration, the companies said in a statement Monday.

The DOJ includes the government's antitrust division, which is responsible for ensuring that mergers will not limit competition so much that they harm consumers.

Adobe and Macromedia are gathering the information requested and still expect the merger to close on time in the third quarter, they said.
