Australia gets the easy Kyoto treaty treatment
how many people here know that Aus gets to increase its
greenhouse gas pollution 25% over 1990 levels?
most countries were scheduled for reductions of 8 percent, or so.
Aus got a scheduled increase of 8 percent.

On top of the 8% scheduled increase,
because Aus has greatly reduced the rate at which
it torches pristine Koala habitat from 1990 to present,
(laudable I suppose, BUT),
that amount of reduced carbon emission transfers as a like
allowed increase in 'normal' pollution.
LULUCF, land use land use change forestry,
is the term the UNFCCC uses for these calculations.
(this sends the message to developing countries that,
torching your forests gets you a bigger Kyoto treaty baseline)

bottom line is that Aus has to do nothing to meet its hypothetical 2008-2012 obligation to the Kyoto treaty.

note that Aus is not alone as a Kyoto treaty do-nothing.

Aus joins these do-nothings...
EU (carbon offset cheats, no effort expended)
Japan(apparently ignoring its limits, no effort expended)
Canada, NZ (ignore, no effort expended)
US(honest enough to not join something it would ignore, no effort expended)
former Soviet states (shut down uneconomic industry, no effort expended)
rest of world (no numerical limitation, no effort needed)

I'll post links if anyone is interested
