Activists want more restrictions on natural gas (Delaware River basin)

WEST TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Activists are calling for a complete moratorium on any permits that have to do with drilling for natural gas in the Delaware River basin.

The Delaware River Basin Commission may consider the request at its meeting in West Trenton on Wednesday.

The commission, made up of representatives of the governors of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware and the federal government, has already barred any drilling for natural gas — even exploratory drilling — while it considers formal regulations.

Environmentalists want to put on hold permits for natural gas companies to draw water or discharge wastewater.
