Japan beset by radiation fears

The top US nuclear regulator said the quake and tsunami-ignited Japanese nuclear crisis appeared to be on the verge of stabilising.

Bill Borchardt, the commission's executive director for operations, on Monday said that units 1, 2 and 3 at the Fukushima Daiichi plant have some core damage but that containment for those three reactors is not currently breached.

However, a plume of smoke from two buildings on Monday temporarily stalled critical work to reconnect power lines and restore cooling systems.

What caused the smoke to billow first from Unit 3 and later from Unit 2 is under investigation, nuclear safety agency officials said.

In the days since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami wrecked the plant's cooling systems, both reactors have overheated and some explosions were heard.

On March 15 Michi Okugawa wrote, "The situation in Tokyo is getting worse. The Japanese government today admitted that it is overwhelmed by unfolding events.

If millions of Japanese wondering what they need to do to get out of harm's way are confused, there is good reason for it. The Japanese government as well as the American one and health officials around the world are themselves confused about the potential dangers to the people of the greater metropolitan Tokyo area, which is practically in the shadow of the out-of-control nuclear power station.

So he is asked if this will pose any risks? Gave the talking points about a ct scan.

To the workers at the plant...

No, not at all, nothing like acute radiation sickness.

Pass me a shoe... we already have had a few people with acute exposure. At that point either he is not keeping up with the nooz... that be charitable... or head in sand and on purpose.

I think our best guesses are closer to the truth.

I think the Japanese utility company that runs the nuclear facilities tried to save them for future use by not injecting sea water right away. I think the delay will cause a meltdown in a minimum of two reactors.

I think there are far too many lies in the world.
