Roll waambulance: GOP faults Arctic offshore drilling ban for high gas prices
SAVOONGA, Alaska — Shell Oil will present an ambitious proposal to the federal government this week, seeking permission to drill up to 10 exploratory oil wells beneath Alaska’s frigid Arctic waters.

<>

Environmental groups say a spill in the Arctic’s inaccessible waters could be even more catastrophic than the Gulf of Mexico accident. Republicans, meanwhile, are threatening to excoriate the president for turning his back on energy security if he says no to Shell.

'Americans are reeling from staggering prices at the pump,' said Representative Cory Gardner, a Colorado Republican on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. 'So the president has to justify to the American people why we are not replacing Saudi Arabian oil imports with U.S.-produced oil.'"

Instead, maybe hapless victim Shell can justify $6.9B in first quarter profits to American consumers who are reeling from staggering prices at the pump.

1. How much oil would there be from drilling just a few months ago?
It isn't as if they banned production at existing wells, is it?

The drilling rights.

If we received enough monies for the drilling, it would make more sense to let the oil companies drill where they want to.

But even after the Big Oil Companies destroyed the Gulf, the nation gets only 1.5 billion in royalties from that area of the world.

This needs to stop being a "giveaway" program. All these companies are making a fortune.

4. The Big Oil Lie
We consume 20% of the world's oil supply yet our entire oil reserves are down to 2% of world supply. Big Oil is math-challenged.
