U.S.: Wave of Attacks Planned in Nigeria (oil facilities)

LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) - Militants in Nigeria are planning a major new wave of attacks and kidnappings in the next few days that could include up to 20 simultaneous bombings across the country's oil-rich delta region, U.S. diplomats warned Friday.

The warning came in an e-mailed statement sent to American citizens from the U.S. Consulate in Nigeria's main city, Lagos, and a U.S. diplomat confirmed plans for fresh attacks were believed to be under way.

"The U.S. Government has learned that as of late October 2006, a militant Niger Delta group may have finalized its plans for a unified attack against oil facilities in the Niger Delta region," the statement said. "The attacks allegedly will be carried out sometime during the first week of November and will include 10 to 20 simultaneous bombings of land-based targets and a series of separate attacks on oil installations in which expatriate workers will be taken hostage."

The statement gave no details on what specific oil installations might be targeted.

1. gotta justify those coming Saudi oil hikes, you know one hand washes
the other. Saudis and refiners held down the price of gasoline for Bush. Now BushCo needs to give them cover to return to higher profits.

2. I met a bright young man from Nigeria -
Excellent, fluid english, went to college in Nigeria and accomplished a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Came to America because Nigeria, he said, is so blatantly corrupt. He said everyone there knows the government lies about oil production; they dramatically understate it - to skim the profits (Iraq, anyone?). It's impossible to get a job there (Nigeria). Apparently it's also impossible to get a job here, in the U.S. - where we need electrical engineers because our grid dates back to FDR... and yet he was attending a trade school to work as a lineman... with a BS in EE and no one would hire him - he was from Chicago. I encouraged him to search online and apply for the numerous EE positions out there... unbelievable.

3. your friend is discovering that the USA is also now a 3rd-world country.
It's just that so far most people, here or abroad, haven't internalized that unpleasant truth. Yet.

4. We were living off our savings and now we are borrowing...
Very soon now we reach the end of the line and discover we are the violent crash & burn cousin nobody likes to talk about.
