'Global Warming', - the WRONG terminology for now?

Should it be “Global Change”? It appears while the polar ice is melting, winter weather is being forced down to the central U. S. causing unseasonable spring blizzards, storms and tornados. Perhaps after all the glaciers and ice have melted the real “Global Warming “ will set in. Then, God help everything on the planet.

Maybe there is still time to change the trend? I’m no scientist – just an old lady, a one-time college geology major, who has witnessed many seasonal changes but this year is a whopper.

Am, also, bracing for the oncoming DU “scoffer attack”.

1. "Climate Crisis" is the most accurate term, IMO. n/t

2. Not from me, you won't get an attack
We were talking about this as we stood outside freezing in the middle of April at our StepItUp event. We said that global climate change is probably a better term right now, so that contrarians can't scoff at us and say "Ha! How can there be global warming -- it's so cold out now?" If we call it climate change, there's nothing to argue with.

What is happening is:

Climate Change being forced by Global Warming.

A theory on why so much cold air: as the tundra warms and the ice melts, the surrounding air is made colder, spreading out and creating winds that end up blowing around the globe. Like opening your refrigerator door, only on a global scale.

There will come a time when the tundra and air temp equalize and begin heating in balance, so the cold is no longer being released.

It'll be hot as hell, then!

5. Be Free - In essence, that's what I was thinking so maybe
we do have time to change the trend.

7. Certainly
People need to understand what is what, and it sounds like you have a damn good grasp of what's coming on.

4. Climate Breakdown: Climate Destabilization
I HATE having to force facts through the pinched, spasm-prone gullet of "Well, if it's global warming, whyzzit so cold, Perfessor?!?!"

6. Global Climate Change
Because people tend to scoff when the local weather is colder than usual, like here in the US this April. They don't realize that this is a symptom of changing weather patterns.

8. 'Climate change' is the preferred term of the republicans
just so you know

"1. “Climate change’’ is less frightening than “global warming ” As one focus group participant
noted, climate change “sounds like you’re going from Pittsburgh to Fort Lauderdale.” While
global warming has catastrophic connotations attached to it, climate change suggests a more
controllable and less emotional challenge."

see http://www.ewg.org:16080/briefings/luntzmemo/pdf/LuntzResearch_environment.pdf (tells you all you want to know about republican envuronemntal strategy)

from this it also stands to reason that 'global change' also sounds pretty inncuous to most people. I'm happy go with 'climate breakdown' or 'climate catastrophe' though - anything that conveys the urgency and importance of the issue

9. I use Climate Crisis
I believe that global warming 1) sounds like a nice day at the beach and 2) does disservice when our climate crisis is actually creating climate extremes so that when a snow storm comes in people say "And they say this is global warming?"

I've given 9 presentations so far since I got back from Nashville, TN and was trained by The Climate Project - I do not say the phrase global warming until near the end of the show when I talk about the clash of Civilization and the Earth - and I say global warming is only one effect of this collision.

10. A discussion

Met an old friend the other day who claimed humans are not the cause, and even if we were this stuff 'happens'.

I pointed out that the real issue is air pollution. Most people don't realize how much pollution we are introducing into the once blue skies.

He used the old canard about smokers so I asked him to consider this:

Sit in a closed room full of cigar smokers for hours and hours, and you won't keel over, dead. But run a hose from the tailpipe of one car for twenty minutes and see what happens.

The issue needs to be brought down to a personal level.
