New AC - I'm so excited!
:bounce:
I just decided to pay the two thousand extra for a full energyStar AC system. I needed to replace the inside furnace/AC but not the outside unit. Replacing the outside unit will increase my energy efficiency by a guaranteed 25% but with an expected 40% to 50% increase.

They are on their way now to install. I'm kind of freaked by the total cost but I did get a cash discount so...I'll be cool this summer, guaranteed. And the AC will not run all day in 100+ degree temps, guaranteed. And I'm saving energy, guaranteed. :bounce:

1. Congrats! Are you getting any state or federal rebates for your
upgrade?

5. If I had upgraded even more
to a $7,100ish system (mostly heating features that I would never use in sunny So Cal) instead of the $6,300ish (before cash discount) system that "fits" my condo I could have received a $150.00 rebate. So, no. It wasn't at all practical.

2. That is exciting!
I would love to get a new furnace and a/c. Our furnace was not running right last weekend and my husband was down there banging on it and swearing like a sailor. It reminded me of that movie "The Christmas Story" where the father is always down in the basement beating the hell out of the furnace!!! Anyway, it did actually work for hubby this time. The blower finally shut off and has been working ever since. Go figure.

6. I understand
But for me it is not the heating as much as the AC. I'm in So Cal. I had a $750.00 electric bill last summer the month during the worst heat wave. $450.00 the month before. This will save me sooo much money!

3. What SEER rating?
Just wondering what the SEER or other efficiency rating is of your new system. I assume this has the new refrigerent in it as well. That alone could save you big bucks in the long run. Not to mention that in 100 deg summer heat you will save a fortune. Congrats.

8. I'm not sure.
I'll have to go look at the paperwork. They've just started working. I'll get back to you on that.

Just being cool in the summer would be enough for me, at this point. To save money and energy will be like icing on the (ice cream) cake.

4. Last month
I got a new system. Just under 95% efficiency on the furnace and about 18 SEER on the A/C. Variable speed. Opted to get the optional air cleaner (yes, I've noticed a big difference). Added an additional intake. Thermostat has an auto setting which will automatically switch between heat and A/C.

Last couple of years I have had to get small repairs on the A/C - which was about 15 years old. I thought it best to replace the system before it completely failed in the heat of summer.

I'm hoping that in a year or two I can relocate. My energy savings will not repay the cost of the system in that time - but it may help to sell the house more quickly. Next up is some cosmetic kinds of upgrades - and starting to go through all my accumulated stuff....

7. I'm doing the exact same thing
except my AC had already failed. Good luck to you. I hope you realize the benefits right away.
