Eminent scientist says Australian farmers should leave the land
One of Australia's most respected environmental scientists on has called for farmers to give up fighting the drought and leave the land with dignity.

Professor Peter Cullen, who is a member of a group of scientists devising a national water strategy for the dry continent, said that as much as 10 percent of agricultural land was unsustainable for farming.

The current drought is estimated to have spread to some 90 percent of New South Wales state and is said to be the worst in living memory.
