About 200 Oregon Department of State Lands employees were evacuated from their Salem offices this morning after police got a report of a suspicious box found in a nearby parking structure.

Oregon State Police said they got the report just after 7 a.m. Two state bomb technicians and troopers went to the parking structure near 775 Summer Street, NE.

About an hour later, police cleared the scene and employees were allowed to return to the building.

The suspicious package? A box of files left behind by an employee.

2. This is a commonplace occurrence.
Why is the media covering this at all? This happens a lot in public places and that has been a fact for many years. I have worked in public buildings and watched as security guards blew up a briefcase abandoned by some unfortunate attorney and some sort of device like a small tape player left by someone in a courtroom. This is a non-event.
