Authorities this afternoon remain on the scene of a plastics manufacturer in Lee’s Summit after a worker found a suspicious item in a break room.

Police and fire crews were called about 8:45 a.m. to Polytainers in the 1400 block of Douglas Street.

A hazardous-materials team, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and other agencies were called.

Police have shut down Victoria Drive near the plant until the incident is resolved. But employees at nearby businesses in the light-industrial district were allowed to keep working.

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. -- Workers were evacuated from Polytainers, Inc. after a suspicious package was found in the break room.

The bomb squad, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, National Guardsmen, Lee's Summit police, and Missouri Highway Patrol were all called to the scene in Lee's Summit to help determine what was in the package.

Workers found a "suspicious plastic container" in the break room on Wednesday morning. The container is one made at the plant, but something about it caused management to have the building evacuated.

Workers were moved to the Eastglen movie theaters across the road from the manufacturing plant. They were eventually dismissed when it was determined a day of production was lost.

1. This is the umpteenth 'suspicious package' in this area in about 3 weeks

There seems to be a suspicious package virus in the KC area.

3. I have had a plan for years.
I guarantee you that I could take a handful of well-placed guys and shut down the US economy with nothing more than "suspicious packages".
