174 000 tourists were crime victims - SA

Nearly 174 000 or 2,7 percent of foreign visitors were victims of theft or other crime in South Africa last year. But despite this, statistics indicate that the country is still regarded as one of the safer tourist destinations.

The latest tourism survey has found that while nearly 50 percent of overseas visitors come to South African shores feeling "insecure about their safety", 81 percent go home without having experienced any problems.
