US to help fund safe water system in Orissa

New Delhi, May 10. (PTI): The United States today provided a grant of 65,000 dollars (Rs 28.8 lakhs) for implementation of safe water system in Orissa.

This system is meant for water treatment and safe storage to reduce the incidence of diarrheal diseases.

In a brief ceremony at the US Embassy here, Ambassador David C Mulford presented the cheque from the Indo-US Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases and Disease Surveillance Programme to Population Services International (PSI) for implementation, surveillance, monitoring and evaluation activities.

The US Department of Health and Human services, through the centres for Disease Control and Prevention, is collaborating with PSI and WHO-SEARO to implement this system.
