Paris - Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi says he wants to buy French weapons - and France may be willing to sell to him, France's defence minister said on Sunday.

"He has changed," Michele Alliot-Marie said of the Libyan leader, whom she met for talks over the weekend. "He wants to participate in the actions of the international community."

France can sell armaments to Libya in line with "international rules and our own rules," which are "extremely precise", Alliot-Marie told Europe-1 radio. She noted that Libya had bought French Mirage jets in the past.
