Weatherman released
Google News links on Boudin

New York Times article (may need registration)

BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y., Sept. 17 - Kathy Boudin, the former 1960's radical and fugitive, walked out of prison into the brilliant September sunshine today, 22 years after her involvement in an armored-car robbery that left three dead.

...

She has accepted a job offer from the St. Luke's Hospital H.I.V./AIDS Center to create programs for women who are infected with the virus that causes AIDS, said Jim Mandler, a spokesman for the Upper West Side hospital. Ms. Boudin, 60, worked with H.I.V.-positive inmates at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, where she also earned a master's degree in adult education. A spokesman for the New York State Division of Parole, Thomas P. Grant, said Ms. Boudin would remain on parole for the rest of her life, with a curfew and travel restrictions.

-------

I think this should be an interesting thread for Justice Public Policy. It touches on many subjects, including gun control, bank robbery, terrorism, sentence guidelines, prisoner advocacy, the criminal justice system, on and on. Hopefully this will touch on some of the larger issues not usually dealt with here, such as the motivations behind the crimes and the consequences afterwards.

For the record, the Weather Underground and the Unibomer are no different to me than the Klan or Tim McVeigh. Though their underlying politics are different, in practice they are cut from the same cloth.

Here's two sides:

2. Hey, this is J/PS!
I think I could probably find something about meteorology as it relates to crime and punishment. :)

3. Sometimes the history of this country, particularly the 20th c.
is absolutely unbelievable. Who makes up this stuff?

4. The 20c will live in infamy
And for one I am glad it's over.

Personally, I'm in favor of her staying behind bars. If there were not so many drug users in prison early release wouldn't be as much of an issue. Toss out the potheads and keep murderers, rapists, and thieves in there. A murder during the commission of a bank robbery is serious business, and I think 30 - 40 years is more like it, if she's going to get out at all. Some repeat drug offenders get longer than 20 years for non-violent crimes.

5. c'mon...
she was fighting the good fight.....and the leftists were defeated. The men who murdered the black panthers etc never even got charged, and the panthers were asleep at the time! Peltier is still in prison, 20plus years after the prosecutor in that case admitted he couldn't have been guilty.....
Had the American people recognized JUSTICE 30 years ago, Kathy Boudin etc would have been working positively rather then getting involved in the crazy desperate shit they tried...
goddamit, if we WON then i'd see your point, but BUSH is the fuken prez (20 years after reagan 'broke through')!!
the entire goddam media, in effect, are rock'n'roll loving neocons....!
