Shifting attitudes in DC?
Edited on Sat Mar-21-09 03:07 PM by Jackson1999
I've been detecting a shift in people's attitudes on the gun issue in DC. The anti-gun Washington Post actually published an article quoting real live District residents who actually have the nerve to think that our gun laws are draconian and unconstitutional. The best quote is this one....

Valencia Mohammed, director of Mothers of Unsolved Murders, a D.C. advocacy group for mothers of homicide victims, said she would welcome the deal, although she has lost two sons to gun violence in the city. This is one of the inalienable rights that I wanted," she said. "I want my vote to be counted. I want representation in Congress. And I also want the right to bear arms."

"I'm just looking at the history of my ancestors and what they went through and how they were shot and killed, tarred and feathered and burned to death," she said. "Guns was one of those things that they could not have and a tool for other people that kept them enslaved. I'm saying no more of that. I want to enjoy all of those rights that they were denied. . . . It's time."

You are a wise woman, Ms. Mohammed

4. devastating indictment of gun control
on a side note, if the DC voting/gun rights bill passes, I wonder if Ms. Mohammed will buy her guns from Josh Sugarmann?

5. No need for Josh
The bill also amends federal law so we DC residents can buy our guns in Virginia or Maryland. Right now, there is one FFL in town doing transfers, but he charges $125.

6. Rob Williams and the Deacons For Defense and Justice would approve

There is a long (and mostly forgotten) history of African-Americans arming
themselves for self-defense.

Among the most notable in the 20th century were Robert F. Williams and
the Deacons For Defense and Justice.
