Utah Legislature: Businesses urged to welcome guns
SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah House passed a bill that would encourage businesses to allow concealed firearms onto their property.
HB380 would grant businesses immunity if a concealed firearm permit holder fires a gun.
The bill's sponsor, Rep. Stephen Sandstrom, R-Orem, said the measure is designed to prevent mass shootings, such as the one at Trolley Square in 2007, by encouraging more "law-abiding" gun owners to carry guns into stores and other businesses.
Under the proposal, businesses would not be required to allow guns.
Opponents said the bill would encourage irresponsibility, but Sandstrom said the bill would put the responsibility where it should be — on the individual gun owner.

I see this as a plus for our side. Maybe other states can get a set and pass similar laws.

15. Those gun nuts keep you safe
Even if you are anti-gun. How many bad guys, in his/her right mind, would pull out a gun and attempt a robbery, etc., if he/she knew 40 people could/would draw down on him/her?

Answer: None. They'd prefer a bunch of unarmed people incapable of defending themselves.

3. If gun owners are going to be encourage to prevent mass shootings...
by being part of the gun-toting militia, they should be well-regulated as well. Perhaps boot camp and frequent drills should be required.

10. Please do a little research as to what "well-regulated" means in the context of 2A.
Hint: It does not mean what you think it means.

18. If you're going to require it...
I require you pay me for my time.

$100/hour, plus ammo costs, travel expenses and weapons maintenance should cover it.

5.  Y'all really do need to use reading comprehension
Edited on Tue Mar-02-10 03:59 PM by oneshooter
The law, as written, says that if the business owner does not place a "No Guns" on his property then if a firearm is used to harm another in the store, the store could not be held liable.

The other side of that is if the store owner DOES puts up a "No Guns" sign he can be held liable for any gun related injury on that property.

Reading Comprehension, It's what reading is all about.

11. But I can sue you if you shoot me while "defending" yourself?
After all, it wouldn't be the store owner that caused the injury.

12. In the USA you can sue for just about anything.
However, most states would add your injuries to the offenses of the criminals under felony murder laws.

It is defending, not "defending".

14. I just do not subscribe to your odd definition of "defend".
The standard definition works perfectly fine for me.

If the Bad Guys start a gun fight and if you are near by, then you run the risk of getting shot. My recommendation for those circumstances is to move away from the action and/or find cover.
