Is ammunition control being used as gun control?

Ammunition controls, too tight
Posted: 12/26/2010 04:55:18 AM PST

Last year, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Assembly Bill 962, making it a crime to deliver handgun ammunition if the transaction is not done face-to-face, and if the driver fails to determine, through government identification, whether the recipient is legally authorized to receive the ammo.

This is a back door effort by the anti-gun lobby to stop private ownership of guns. In the immortal words of Rooster Cogburn, "A gun that's unloaded and cocked ain't good for nothing."

This law is scheduled to go into effect in February and criminalizes much of the commercial shipping of handgun ammunition in the state.

Drivers for delivery firms (UPS, FedEx, etc.) would have to become the police by determining what is being shipped and whether the person is qualified to receive it.

Second Amendment-advocates, including the NRA and the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, are vowing to fight the statute.

Finally, this is all about stopping Internet sales of ammunition. If you control the ammunition, you control the gun.emphasis added

1. Apparently well regulated militias can bear arms -- they just can't buy commercial ammo.

Sounds good to me. Now, there will be a run on handloaders among those who can't walk into public without their "arms."

4. Wrong.
Ammunition is inclusive of arms.

The Supreme Court will rule so, guaranteed.

6. Yeah!
If you can't subjugate the proletariat with lies, just tell more lies.

That'll do it...

...with no reporting requirements. They can bring back a carful from Nevada, Arizona, or Oregon if their finances allow.

I'm surprised an, ahem, expert such as yourself wasn't aware of this.

I guess security theater isn't just for the TSA, eh?

11. All you need is a reloading kit ...
powder, primers and bullets. If necessary you can cast your own lead bullets.

Reloading is far from difficult but it wise to pay attention when reloading.

You can make quality ammo with a Lee Loader which will only cost you $31.12 from Amazon.com.

It's less noisy to use a single stage press like this RCBS Rock Chucker. The entire kit will cost you a little under $300.

If you want to produce large quantities of ammo quickly, you can invest in a progressive press like this Dillon 550B. Cost will be under $500.

2. The real objective
From the article:

>The real fear is that the law could set a precedent that would influence anti-gun local governments
>nationwide to set up a nightmare of a bureaucracy. The more red tape they create, the more they
>discourage people from becoming involved in shooting sports.

And of course, this is the objective.

But the bright side here is hopefully more people will turn to reloading. It's cheaper, too.

5. Reloading can produce inexpensive high quality ammo ...
it's easy to learn but does require the reloader to pay close attention to the task.

I reloaded tens of thousands of rounds without any serious problems on a single stage press.

RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme

I could really produce ammo on a large scale if I used this rig. The price is not that much more than the old single stag press I used.
