Bill introduced to allow permitted guns on campus (Florida)
A state lawmaker has introduced a bill that would allow permitted firearms to be carried at the University of Florida and on other college and university campuses across the state.

Florida currently prohibits concealed weapons on all school campuses, one of 49 states that either bar them outright or leave the issue up to individual schools.

The proposal comes in the wake of a mass shooting in Arizona and the accidental shooting death of a Florida State University student. The police chiefs of Florida's state universities, including UF Police Chief Linda Stump, have come out in unanimous opposition to the measure.

--snip--

State Sen. Greg Evers, R-Crestview, is proposing the change in a bill that would allow residents who have concealed weapons permits to openly carry those guns. The measure also would lift the state's prohibition on having the weapons at colleges and universities, while leaving it in place for K-12 schools.

8. Please, use the proper canard: "There'll be blood on the study carrels!"
"There'll be blood in the student unions!" is also acceptable.

9. So, what's your excuse for Virginia Tech? How well did *that* handgun ban work?

10. And while you're at it, could you explain away Utah and Washington for us?
See, those two states already allow their properly licensed students to carry at public universities.

Somehow, they've both managed to avoid having any spree shootings, unlike "gun-free" Virginia Tech....

5. Not much.
First of all, you have to be 21 or older in most states to get a concealed carry permit.

This means only college students in their 3rd or 4th years would be having firearms.

But that doesn't really matter.

If a 21-year-old not in college can carry a concealed firearm, why can a 21-year-old in college not carry one?

11. A similar bill has been introduce into both the Senate and House in Texas.
Passage is expected with the governor's signature all but guaranteed.
