Robber With Knife Topped By Victim Pulling Gun
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo -- A would-be robber wielding a knife got a surprise when the victim pulled a handgun, Colorado Springs police said.

-----

A man was sitting in his car, which he had just finished washing.

Another man walked up, pulled a knife on the victim and demanded his money, police said.

"The victim reached for what the suspect thought was a wallet, but was actually a semi-auto handgun," a police report said. "The victim pointed his gun at the suspect, who immediately fled on foot."

1. If all news stories would end that way...
"who immediately fled on foot."

2. How insensitive of the victim.
He should have handed over his wallet, they keys to his shiny, clean car, and the password to his online brokerage account.

Showing a gun is just rude and hostile.

I weep for our society.

8. And if his assailant had a gun, he might have a hole through his head.

9. Yes. I'm glad you can acknowledge...
...that it's good when the law-abiding citizen has a firearm and the criminal does not. Ain't it grand?

On the other hand, if the law-abiding citizen had not had a gun, he might now be maimed or dead. At the very least, he would have lost his property.

4. Must have been a slow news day for that story to be covered. No blood.
I wonder what the thug is now thinking about his robbery technique.

6. He may simply decide to stop robbing people ...
and go back to breaking into cars and stealing stereos.

Having a gun pointed at you is a life changing experience and at the minimum you will never forget it. Criminals fear armed citizens more than they do police. If you are a bad guy and screw around with an armed citizen he may simply shoot you. Usually a cop gives you a chance to surrender.

10. In reality that depends on several factors ...
1) The skill of the knife fighter.

2) The distance between the opponents.

3) The size and type of the knife.

4) The caliber of the firearm involved.

5) The skill of the shooter.

6) Shot placement and luck.

Let's suppose the attacker is armed with a .22 caliber pistol or revolver and ends up facing an experienced knife fighter armed with this Gurkha Kukri at close range.
