Virginia Tech to tweak gun policy after Cuccinelli (R-gun extremist) opinion
http://www2.wsls.com/news/2011/jul/07/virginia-tech-tweak-gun-policy-after-cuccinelli-op-ar-1158788/

When it comes to guns, at Virginia Tech, policy says no one is supposed to have them on campus, permit or not.

But, in response to a question about gun policy at the University of Virginia, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli handed down an opinion this week that campus policy banning weapons is not enforceable by law.

This means, according to Cuccinelli, a policy like Virginia Tech’s only applies to students, faculty and administration, not all people who come onto campus.

“What we will do now is initiate implementation of those policies under the state regulation process and so what we'll end up with is is an agency regulation as opposed to an agency policy,” said Larry Hincker, head of University Relations at Virginia Tech.

1. Well there is an easy way to get around that
Only students, faculty and administration is allowed on campus.

9. That would just not likely be a viable option.
I'm not sure if you ever went to college or not, and if so what your campus was like, but at the college I went to there was always a lot more going on there than just education, and non-students/faculty/administrators were present constantly.

6. You want to keep us dirty gun owners off campus? Lol.
Just like back in the day but this time with a different group. Interesting how we have a modern day form of bigotry showing up but this time the victims are people who practice constitutional rights. Anything else you want? Separate bathrooms, fountains and sections of the bus for gun owners?

3. This is not controversial even in the slightest.

Campus carry is not illegal, per se, and only university policy prevents it from happening.

5. 49 out of 50 states have some sort of concealed carry
That would make your opposition to it the 'extreme' view.

10. It is not extreme, it is a matter of law as currently written
It apparently can be changed and some are trying to. Whether or not they are successful in that effort remains to be seen

I carry on campus most days in CA, campus cops are aware of that and fine with it.

11. I wonder what V Tech's policy or regulation is
Edited on Sat Jul-09-11 09:48 AM by DWC
concerning illegal drugs on campus. I am confident campus policy or regulation opposes it and I am equally confident no person has illegal drugs in their possession while on campus BECAUSE there is a policy or regulation against it.(sarcasm)

Illegal drugs are exactly that - Illegal. Defensive firearms are legal and their possession is a 2nd amendment civil right.

Civil Rights shall not be infringed.
