Detroit — Community advocates and cops are vowing to make Detroit safer as the city is gripped by a spike in violence.

A 14-year-old boy fatally shot Saturday night is the latest casualty after police detailed a 24-hour spate of shootings in the city that left six others dead and nine injured.

Police say the boy was shot around 6 p.m. in the 4600 block of Coplin while he and an 18-year-old were playing with a gun that went off. The bullet struck the 14-year-old, killing him. The suspect remains in custody and the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office is reviewing the case, police said.

The incident follows nine other shootings that occurred between 6 a.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday.

1. I must have missed the part about how CCW were involved?
Otherwise this is another news story about criminals doing criminal things.

Wasn't there another story last week about wanting to suspend CCW in Detroit and several other Michigan cities? I have a suspicion that if they allowed that it wouldn't make a big difference in these headlines.

They should do what Daley always did when the obvious was pointed out to him. Blame Indiana and Ohio.

Not to mention gang activity.

I are not suprised.

Is this why London burned?

4. O/T side note:
"Deadly day leaves 7 dead..."

While it's rather unfortunate to have a sentence with a word repeated, to have this appear in a headline is just sad.
Can anyone actually write well these days?

I could go on, but the rest of them read just like this. If only there were laws against murder and maybe a law against firing a gun into the air at a party (5 victims out of that one incident?!?!)

So what was your goal in posting this in the gun forum, jpak? Other than to try and paint lawful gun owners with the same brush as gangbangers with no concern for human life, which is not only an untruth, but a blatant insult as well. I would say that you should be ashamed of yourself, but I'm not certain that you're capable of that level of introspection.

8. Couldn't possibly have anything to do with unemployment
Impose a 5 year waiting period on Republicans, and watch the crime rate go down.

10. that is a thought
make the politicians and talking heads title two. So Newt, did you submit your ATF Form 5320.20 before coming to Iowa? So Sarah, did you declare yourself to Canadian customs and submit your ATF Form 5320.20 before going on your comedy tour?

Does that mean Newt's and Rush's ex wives all have to fill out ATF Form 1s and owe the feds back transference taxes?

12. As long as we're talking forms...
...if a politician marries and has 2.3 children after entering politics does his family become deductible as well as dependents?
I realize they'd have to be depreciated. Children are straight-line depreciated over 18 years. Wives well probably over a shorter time, at least for Rush.
