Most Israelis back unilateral W. Bank pullout::Poll, Yahoo News
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 11:35 PM by Coastie for Truth

Most Israelis favor a further unilateral pullout from occupied
West Bank land following last year's withdrawal from the
Gaza Strip, an Israeli newspaper poll showed on Friday.

Fifty-one percent would approve a unilateral pullout from land
Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war because they believed Palestinian leaders were incapable of negotiating a deal with Israel, according to the newspaper Maariv.

Interim Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who assumed power from Prime Minister
Ariel Sharon after he suffered a stroke on January 4, was a strong supporter of the Gaza withdrawal, which was completed in September and boosted hopes for Middle East peace.

1. Take that, Pat Robertson!
And somehow, I don't think the Israeli people are "godless atheists"

In fact, you could learn a few things from the Israelis about combining religious belief with living in the real world.

2. Saw the article. I knew this.
So why aren't the settlers leaving the West Bank?
Why are the settlements expanding?

They gotta push their govt. to do the right thing.

3. A major stumbling block--
even with massive government loans (which the Left - as distinguished from Labor Party - has long opposed as counterproductive), the settlers have little "equity" and large mortgage loans (lots of very low down payment loans with incredibly long terms) - and it will require either a government take over of the loans (which was done in Gaza) or a private "buy out."

Wordie was kind enough to post on a "Private buy out plan" at describing the Mortgage Buy Out Program.
