Anti-Israel Occupation Groups Unite
Three area groups of Jews and non-Jews opposed to Israel’s recent military actions in Gaza and ongoing role in the West Bank decided last Sunday, Jan. 25, to make their case together to Maryland’s congressional delegation.

“We said it’s time to take action, and the type we can take as a small group is talking to officials and letting them know they can have a resource for information other than AIPAC,” said Ruth Crystal, a steering committee member of Baltimore Tikkun, referring to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

Mrs. Crystal attended Sunday’s meeting at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation between members of her group, Baltimore Palestine Solidarity, and the Howard County Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation (HCCEIO).

Baltimore Tikkun has been hosted by BHC since its inception in 2003. The group attracts between 10 and 20 members for monthly meetings, Mrs. Crystal said, noting that she has an e-mail list of around 250 people.

Appointments with congressional staffers responsible for Middle East matters might begin as early as February and likely will start with the office of Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin (D-Md.), Mrs. Crystal said.
