Satellite or parasite state?

THE BUSH-Sharon partnership has reached a shameless level. Following a public rebuke of the Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon for his intention to take unilateral steps towards a final settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict, the Bush administration backtracked and replaced its words of reproach by words of praise. While the words of rebuke carried Colin Powell's signature, the words of praise carried the radical Zionists'.

The sudden change of stance has more to do with getting the Jewish vote in 2004 than with advancing the peace in the Middle East. While the Jewish vote is critical for George W. Bush, it is business as usual for radical Zionists. No matter who loses the 2004 American presidential election, radical Zionism will be a winner. With George W. Bush's Zionist neoconservatives on the right and Joe Lieberman's pro-Israel Democrats on the left, Israel will most likely sustain its parasitical relationship with the American people indefinitely.

Radical Zionists and their right and left American cronies have always countered the above commonsensical statements by falsely claiming that Israel should be unconditionally supported because the latter is a democracy and a close ally of the US. According to a number of dictionaries, an ally is a supporter, a helper and a partner. Can one think of a battle that Israel has fought alongside the United States? How about the current conflict taking place in Israel's backyard, Iraq?

If the state of Israel is so strategically important for the United States, why is the former watching as American men and women are killed everyday in Iraq to make Israel safer? I once read an interesting description of how in a parasitical relationship between animals one eats into the other's skin and then internal organs until the victim dies.

1. Their definition
of radical Zionist probably includes anybody who supports the existence of Israel.

I note the article came from the JORDAN Times. Jordan has killed far more Palestinians that Israel has in the last 30+ years.

2. You are correct about Jordan.
The article starting this thread contains:

"The biggest conspiracy in American history has been to hoax Americans into believing that there is no Zionist conspiracy, a diabolical counter-conspiracy tactic if you like, to blur the vision and hide the obvious truth. Hence, a culture of fear has dominated America vis-ý-vis the dubious role of the Zionist movement in outright controlling America's foreign policy in the service of the state of Israel."

That gives you an idea of how seriously to take this thread.

5. No, it probably doesn't...
I support the existence of Israel and I didn't get the impression I'd be considered a radical Zionist...

Yr comment about Jordan didn't have anything to do with the article...

I disagree with the comments in the article about Israel having control of US foreign policy. It doesn't. The US controls US foreign policy. As far as parasitic relationships go, I think it's a mutually parasitic one, and one that's not particularly healthy for either Israel or the US...

23. Jordan
Actually, my comment about Jordan and the tens of thousands of Palestinians who were killed has a LOT to do with this. It is a historical context. As much as Palestinians or other Arabs critique Israel, they tend to forget history.

26. Nonsense...
It's got zero to do with the article. It'd be just the same as someone trying to do the same thing to an article from an Israeli source by pointing out that Israel has killed many Palestinians...

And we've been through this before in a thread a few months back. Tens of thousands weren't killed, Muddle...

6. I agree with drdon
Jordon gets a sizable chunk of US foreign aid as well.

The US-Israel relationship is a working relationship, and creative output results. Not parasitic as the writer contends, and certainly the claim that Israel is the cause of the 9/11 attacks should be a red flag to everyone.

Garbage such as that should be deleted.

when the Jerusalem Post has an article about a suicide bomber blowing himself up on a bus or in a restaurant, we shouldn't believe it?

Or if they write an article claiming Mr. Arafat has absconded with monies given to help the Palestinian people, that too is untrue?

And should they dare to call Hamas a terrorist organization we should really believe they are just the local Boy Scout Chapter?

What else shouldn't we believe in the Jerusalem Post?

The "conspirators" are not motivated by "zionism" but plain old ecumenical, nonsectarian greed.

Nor it is a conspiracy, which implies secrecy.

At the very least, you are informed of what somebody somewhere is sayihng, even if you are inflamed that they are saying it. I love the Foxman piece, too, and I like this one, even though he does make the same mistake of thinking that ideology is more powerful than it is, as powerful as greed, even. Just another rose-tinted lens variant. I wish he were right. Ideologues can on occasion, respond to reason. Those motivated by piggishness and sheer avarice cannot.

rant is a pleasure whether you agree or not. Unfortunately
most of what we see is crude. There are many sides to most
questions, and it's good to be reminded of that.

But if you SEEK to inform, you do not also try to arouse the
passions. I always assume that someone who is trying to stir
me up, whatever the merits of his case, is clearly trying to
interfere with my mental autonomy.

in this city, here is a paper who feels that this article will resonate with enough people, and please their sponsors, enough to run it.

This information is actually food for your mental autonomy, which processes the information. If you are inflamed by it, that IS your mental autonomy at work.

Someone else might read the same thing and merely nod in agreement.

Others might become thoughtful, and get a little mental autonomy action going on somewhere it had not been. Option C is always the one I hope for.

45. My mental autonomy tells me you are being a loon, Sir.
If you think there are not attempts to inflame peoples
passions in order to manipulate their thoughts and control
their political views, you are not paying attention.

You cannot simultaneously appeal to reason and evidence in
order to persuade while inflaming hate, anger, or fear, it
is an oxymoronic thing to do. The lizardlike passions of
the brain stem interfere destructively with dispassionate
thought. This is not to say one should do only one and not
the other, always be Mr. Spock so to speak, but it is to
say that they are categorically not the same thing.

If you are merely saying that one can and should resist dishonest
attempts to manipulate one thoughts and feelings, then I agree.

Edited on Tue Dec-30-03 04:45 PM by brainshrub
What does the United States get for it's money: A good customer.

US taxpayer money goes to Israel, who in turn buy weapons from our Military/Industrial complex. It's a sweet racket.

To be fair many countries, mostly dictatorships, have the same deal going on with the US govt.

Israel isn't the parasite: It's the corporations who profit from this mess.
