Palestinian group threatens Gen. Musa Arafat
A militant Palestinian group on Saturday accused Gen. Musa Arafat, the overall commander of the Palestinian Authority's National Security Forces in the Gaza Strip, of trying to assassinate its leader and threatened to retaliate.

The Popular Resistance Committees, an alliance of various Palestinian groups operating in the Gaza Strip, said its leader, Mohammed Nashabat, who is also known as Abu Asef, escaped an attempt on his life carried out by Arafat's security forces.

It said two of the assassins, members of the PA Military Intelligence (which is also headed by Musa Arafat) were caught minutes before the attack."We have documented and photographed evidence to prove this," a spokesman for the committees said. He claimed that the Musa Arafat's men had planned the attack together with Israel's Shin Bet.

Nashabat is the head of the Jenin Martyrs Brigades, the armed wing of the Popular Resistance Committees. His men were behind the recent kidnappings of a number of PA security officials, including former Civil Police Chief Ghazi Jabali.
